Candy Factory

Some insults can’t be brushed off so easily. They called her a courtesan. As a woman of meticulous standards, socialite Jessica Baxter-Beaton is obligated to protest, not only because the word is offensive, but because it was cast as a poorly disguised euphemism for whore. A denial would no doubt be interpreted as an admission of guilt, so she must defend her reputation with vigour, be it through a dark-alley incision applied to a deserving gut, or by way of more odious means: litigation. One way or another, they will pay. In the meantime, with her status in high society in the crosshairs, she must give some thought to the odious prospect of having to get a job.

Still Life of a Salesman

Ted Mordak lies in a hospital bed and waits to die. He’s in no hurry to breathe his last, but he’d enjoy his final days more, if only he didn’t have to listen to his loved ones speak ill of him during visiting hours. Not dead yet! he cries, to no effect. The doctor has spoken: Ted is a vegetable, clinically brain dead, unaware of the world around him. A devastating misdiagnosis, given that his daughters now feel free to speak openly about Ted’s many crimes, both figurative and literal. Worse still, the doctor has directed his children to consider removing him from life support. With a body that no longer responds to commands, Ted’s only viable distraction is to look back on his life, reflect on the good times and bad. And now his best friend has arrived to deliver the death blow.
